Press Release
June 2019

The HUB Child & Family Centre is happy to announce that over the past 6 years we have been working towards expanding our footprint in the Industrial Park at 10 McFarland Court, Picton.

The HUB, formerly Prince Edward Child Care Services, is a non-profit charitable organization that has offered quality early learning and childcare services for over 30 years. Our EarlyON parent/child playgroups and licensed childcare services have provided programs to 85% of the children birth to 12 years in our community and we want to continue to grow and achieve 100%.

In October 2018, we retrofitted the inside of our current 6,400 sq. ft. HUB space to create more licensed childcare spaces, eliminating space for EarlyON programming and some administrative staff. We have had a great opportunity renting space nearby through our partnership with Community Living Prince Edward, for which we are very grateful to continue to operate playgroups and administration programs.

Our current goal is to add an additional 3,220 sq. ft., offering more opportunities within our organization and the community by building a multi-purpose space for workshops, gross motor activities, and parent education. This addition will offer permanent program space for our EarlyON parent/child playgroups and administration offices.

We are asking for the support of the community to help us achieve this goal.  Over the past 6 years, we have been able to obtain reserves that have set us in good standing to move forward with the expansion.

We have had great success with our community partners in collaborating to offer programs and resources for all families, which include the following:

In 2014, we received a grant through The John M. & Bernice Parrott Foundation Inc. to start our own children’s garden and outdoor classroom, where children learn about growing their own healthy food from seed to table. This was made possible through several services coming together to support our vision of Growing Healthy Families.

For several years, we have offered a program cooking with families once a month using the Good Food Box through our partnership with the Community Development Council of Quinte (CDC). In 2015, we started offering products through CDC Good Baby Box program. We want to continue to support these programs and other community initiatives in this additional space.

We collaborate with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health and Prince Edward Family Health Team, Triple P a positive parenting program to offer parent education. All of these great programs and more will be a reality in this HUB model of services in the expanded space.

We have reached out to some local businesses, and are delighted to say that Angry Birds restaurant owner, Michael Hymus, is offering a donation of 100% of one-week of sales towards The HUB project in October (further details to follow). In Michael’s words, “We want to do projects in this community that supports children and families.”

If you would like to make a donation towards The HUB project, you can do so through the Canada Help donation button located at The HUB’s website at  There is also information there to be part of our donor wall or purchase a walkway stone in yours or a loved one’s name, for the entrance to The HUB.
