Before & After School

Even after school is out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating child care environment. Our  innovative before and afterschool program allows kindergarten and school age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. The school age program provides opportunities for individual and group activities which promote cooperation, self-confidence and skills development:

  • Arts and crafts-modelling, paper mache, painting, and sculptures.
  • Active play- organized games, individual activities such as dramatic and creative play which encourage gross motor development and cooperation.
  • Quiet play –activities such as board games and puzzles.
  • Science and Nature- a variety of resource materials expose children to the world around them and satisfies a sense of inquiry.
  • FUN! We have fun, a place to relax, enjoy your friends company and be a kid!

PA Day Programs

Not everyone has the day off, so what more fun could you have then hanging with your friends.  The HUB PA Day program is a day full of fun and adventure.  We encourage learning in all our activities but shhhh the children don’t know they are learning while having fun.  We have outdoor activities, crafts, science, learning games and so much more to keep your children happy and active.

Each of our school-age programs is licensed for children from 3.8 to 12 years and follows the school calendar. Care is available on non-instructional days and school holidays at The HUB Child Care Centre.  Locations for Before & After School programs are:

  • Queen Elizabeth Public School – Queen Elizabeth School, 35 Barker Avenue, Picton
  • Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School – Pinecrest Memorial School, 27 Corey Street, Bloomfield
  • CML Snider Elementary School – CML Snider School, 240 Main Street, Wellington

Pre School

The preschool program offers a variety of stimulating activities and a supportive environment that encourage children to expand and develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical capabilities. Children will learn a world of wonder through play and interaction with other children. This program also gets children ready for school by familiarizing them with, the routines, separation from parents and learning socialization with their peers.

Each of our half-day preschools is licensed for children from two to five years and follows the school calendar.

  • Queen Elizabeth Preschool – Queen Elizabeth School, 35 Barker Avenue, Picton
  • Bloomfield Preschool – Pinecrest Memorial School, 27 Corey Street, Bloomfield
  • Lakeshore Preschool – CML Snider School, 240 Main Street, Wellington
  • Massassaga-Rednersville School - 1115 County Road #3, Belleville
  • Parent fees – Two sessions per week: $120.00 per month

The HUB Clubs

HUB Clubs are After School programs for children 6-12 years of age.  Choose one or both!  This is what we’re offering right now:

Music & Drama Club –  each week we will share our time between Music and Dramatic play activities.  Some fun will include karaoke, ukulele playing and special musical guests will be dropping in!  Music & Drama Club takes place every Monday from 5:30-6:30pm.  Cost is $15 per 6 week session.

Cooking Club – each week we will teach the children that yummy can be healthy.  They’ll learn everything from how to set a table to kitchen safety to creating a wonderful meal.  Cooking Club will be every Friday night from 5:30-7:00pm.  Cost is $20 per 6 week session.

Child Care Fee Subsidy

Parents who work or attend school may be eligible for fee subsidy to help cover child care costs. Eligibility is determined through a simple telephone application process. Applications can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes to process. All personal information is kept strictly confidential.

To qualify for Fee Subsidy, you must:

  • live in Prince Edward or Lennox & Addington County
  • be the parent or guardian of a child under the age of 13 years.
  • be employed, in school or in an approved training program.  Even if you are not yet employed or in school, you may still apply to get on the waiting list. If you or your child has a special need, you may also qualify . Learn more
  • be looking to place your child in care at one of the following programs:
    • Licensed child care program that has a fee subsidy contract
    • Before and After School Program
    • Extended Day Program of an Early Learning Program
    • Approved Recreation Program
    • Informal Care (OW clients only)
  • be in financial need. Financial need is determined through an income test using either:
    • your Family Income from the Child Tax Benefit Statement, if you receive the Universal Child Care Benefit
    • your Net Income (line 236) on the Income Tax Notice Assessment/Notice of Reassessment.

Note: if you are a new immigrant or a new resident to Canada, you can apply before you have to file your first tax return, with supporting documentation.

Documents Needed to Process an Application

  • Most recent “Notice of Assessment” directly from Revenue Canada for both applicant and spouse (if applicable) or “Canada Child Tax Benefit Statement” stating Family Income.   If you have misplaced your Notice of Assessment or Child Tax Benefit Statement the contact the Canada Revenue Agency 1-800-387-1193 to get a copy.
  • Verification of accommodation: rent receipt or property tax notice that shows you live in the Prince Edward or Lennox & Addington coverage area.
  • 2 recent, consecutive paystubs or letter from employer as employment and schedule verification
  • School schedule or letter from educational institution as schedule verification
  • Confirmation of Space Form signed by applicant and child care provider
  • Court Documentation or verification of Custody (if applicable)
  • Social Medical referral (where appropriate)
  • Ontario Works Participation Agreement (where appropriate)

To maintain your fee subsidy you must:

  • Report changes in your employment/school, address, phone number, marital status, etc.
  • Submit two reviews per year
  • Pay your fees to the child care program
  • Respond to all letters and submit information by the deadline date.

If you plan to leave the child care program or transfer to another program – you must tell the child care program (in writing) and contact the Fee Subsidy office.  Most operators require at least two weeks in advance.

You must pay all outstanding fees before leaving the program. We will not process a transfer if you have outstanding fees.
